GEICO Baccalaureate Scholars Receive $3,000 in Scholarships

Jackson, Mississippi – As a boy Cody Kelemen dressed up in police uniforms and like his grandfather, father, uncles and cousinshe dreamed of a career in law enforcement. But when his cousin was shot in the line of duty and miraculously survived, Kelemen learned more about the legal system and set a goal of becoming a United States Federal District Court Judge.

Texas Student Chosen as Pierce Scholar Receives $1,000 Scholarship

Jackson, Mississippi –  Elizabeth Taylor, a graduate of Grayson College in Texas, was selected as the recipient of the 2016 David R. Pierce Scholarship of $1,000 for completion of an associate degree. She hopes to eventually earn a bachelor’s degree in social work and a Ph.D. in nursing, specializing in oncology and patient advocacy. Taylor also earned a $5,000 scholarship as a member of the All-USA Community College Academic Team and a $2,000 scholarship as the New Century Scholar from Texas.

Jackson, Mississippi- Fifteen Phi Theta Kappa members have been selected as 2016 Guistwhite Scholarship recipients and will be honored on stage during Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention in National Harbor, Maryland, April 7-9. Each year $75,000 in scholarship funds are awarded, with each Guistwhite Scholar receiving a $5,000 scholarship for baccalaureate studies and a commemorative medallion.

Two Faculty Advisors Receive $10,000 in Professional Development Stipends

Jackson, Mississippi –Steven Jess Fritts, Lead Instructor of American Sign Language at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, Missouri, has received Phi Theta Kappa’s 2016 Marshall Award, which carries a stipend of $5,000 for personal leadership development. Dr. Joy E. Moses-Hall, Instructor of Physics, Astronomy, and Earth Science at Pitt Community College in Greenville, North Carolina, received the 2016 Mosal Award, also receiving a stipend of $5,000 for personal professional development.
