5 March Spring Scholarship App Open, Offers More Than $300,000 Tweet March 5, 2015 Engagement Engagement 0 Students who will be continuing their education at a two-year college in the fall are invited to apply for more than $300,000 in scholarships on Phi Theta Kappa's Spring Scholarship Application."Even though the cost of a community college is far less than the cost of attending a four-year college, we recognize that there are still students out there who need help completing their associate degree," said Christin Grissom, Phi Theta Kappa's Director of Scholarship Operations. "We are proud to able to offer scholarships to these hardworking students as they strive to achieve their educational goals, regardless of whether that goal is to transfer to a four-year school or to enter or return to the workforce."Scholarships available include the new Pearson Scholarship for Higher Education, which will award 10 scholarships of $5,000 each - $1,000 is to be used at the two-year college, and $4,000 is to be used at a four-year college or university. Additionally, to help students meet their goals of degree completion, all Pearson Scholars will have access to a Pearson Mentor. For this scholarship, preference will be given to first-generation college students. Full details on this new scholarship may be found here."We are grateful to our friends and partners at Pearson for putting this wonderful scholarship into motion," said Heather Johnson, Phi Theta Kappa's Director of Scholarship Development. "Many Pearson executives have already expressed interest in serving as a Pearson Mentor, which will be a wonderful opportunity and experience for the 10 scholars selected."Two changes have been made to the application. First, the Letter of Recommendation has been replaced with a Student Assessment, which is built into the application and no longer requires the recommender to upload documents."The assessment will help yield more targeted responses, increase the strength of the recommendation and decrease upload volumes," Grissom said. The second change involves the length of the application itself. Content has been condensed and question sets have been modified to decrease the length of the application. In addition to the Pearson Scholarship for Higher Education, the following scholarships are available on the Spring Scholarship Application:Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship - 200 scholarships of $1,000 each, with 25 earmarked for members of the military; also includes seven Global Leaders of Promise scholar awards - total awards of $207,000GEICO Pathway to Completion Associate Degree Scholarship - two scholarships of $1,000 each; for members who have held a significant leadership position - total awards of $2,000Richard L.
