Chesney Davis Named 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar

Jackson, Mississippi – Chesney Davis, a student at Northeast Texas Community College in Texas, has been named the 2017 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Davis is an engineering major with a 4.0 grade point average. He serves as the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Regional District III Vice President and is a supplemental tutor on his college campus. Davis is a former baseball player, and he has also extensively coached at a local camp for baseball players.  A Presidential Honors Scholar in his college’s honors program, he has received numerous awards, and after graduation, he plans to obtain his Professional Engineering certification.

The Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholarship is presented to the Texas applicant with the highest score from Phi Theta Kappa’s Spring Scholarship Application, which helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs.

Dr. Hood served as Texas Regional Coordinator for 18 years and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa’s Board of Directors at the time of her death in 2011. The scholarship was established in her memory, providing scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members in Texas.
