Phi Theta Kappa announces Hurst Review NCLEX® Scholarship Program

Jackson, Mississippi – Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is pleased to announce a new scholarship funded by national nursing exam prep company Hurst Review Services to provide exam fee scholarships and study materials for Phi Theta Kappa nursing students who plan to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®).

The NCLEX® is a standardized exam given by each state’s board of nursing to determine if RN or LPN/LVN candidates are competent for entry-level nursing practice.

The Hurst Review NCLEX® Scholarship Program will provide scholarships to 25 Phi Theta Kappa members annually. Each student will receive Hurst study materials and a cash award to cover NCLEX® exam fees. In addition, Hurst will provide a $50 discount on NCLEX® study materials for all Phi Theta Kappa members.

“Hurst Review is excited to be able to offer this scholarship program in partnership with Phi Theta Kappa,"  said Marlene Hurst Cupit, Founder and President of Hurst. "Hurst has a number of employees who have been members of Phi Theta Kappa, and we know first-hand that the Society works hard to provide benefits to its members."

“Hurst’s mission has always been to help nursing students succeed by improving clinical judgement skills through the best NCLEX® preparation course available," Hurst CEO Pat Lowery added. "Together, Hurst and Phi Theta Kappa can provide the resources required to begin a successful career in nursing.”

Sha Walker, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Hurst Review, noted that Phi Theta Kappa nursing students abroad who plan to take the NCLEX® will also be eligible.

“It is such a privilege to work with Hurst Review Services and offer these members the opportunity to reduce the financial barrier to completing their certification,” said Steve Mulhollen, Phi Theta Kappa Foundation Interim Executive Director. “We hope this partnership is the first of many to benefit our members who face the additional costs of certifications necessary for them to find employment.”

Sydney Pemberton, Phi Theta Kappa’s International Vice President for Division III and a nursing major at Labette Community College in Kansas, is one of many Phi Theta Kappa members who will benefit from the new program.

“Many community college students benefit from programs and scholarships that help cover the cost of tuition, but tuition is only one piece of the puzzle,” Pemberton said. “This scholarship is a step in the right direction, providing financial help in a way that has not typically been available for community college students like me.”

Hurst Review is an education services company based in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Since 1988, Hurst’s proven NCLEX® review course has helped hundreds of thousands of nursing students achieve first-attempt success.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 3 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in nine nations.
