New Jersey Chapter Is First to Receive New Award
The Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Mercer County Community College in Trenton,
New Jersey, is the first recipient of Phi Theta Kappa's new award for Innovative
Membership Initiatives. According to Helene Plank, advisor,
the chapter has arranged for Phi Theta Kappa's "Good as Gold" Member
Benefits video to be aired several times each week on the local
community education access cable channel, which announces Mercer's upcoming
events, airs television broadcasts for the college credit telecourses,
and broadcasts student-produced news and talk shows. The potential viewing
audience is all Mercer County cable subscribers - 88,000 households in
the Mercer County and City of Trenton areas. The video will be shown throughout
the month of March. Plank said that Co-Vice President of Publicity Barbara
Wethe developed the idea. The chapter hopes the personal testimonies of
members appearing in the video will attract potential inductees and spur
interest in Phi Theta Kappa and the college. Visit the Pinnacle
Scholarship Award Program website for other innovative
strategies to enhance your chapter's membership acceptance.
