Eric Chong, a professor of tourism and hospitality, has served as chapter advisor for the Beta Beta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Guam Community College since 2002 and received the Paragon Award for his outstanding work as an advisor. He is a recipient of the Guam Visitor's Bureau's Excellence in Tourism HERO Award and provides certification training for the island's tour guides. Mr. Chong is the only person in Guam to hold 3 professional designations from the American Hotel and Lodging Association. Those designations include: Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA), Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE), and Certified Rooms Division Executive (CRDE). The CHA is the highest level of professional recognition one can earn in the hotel industry.
Eric will use his Mosal Award stipend to study the Chinese language and visit China, where he will gain a greater awareness of his own cultural heritage. While there, he will also examine the edu-tourism industry and the potential to promote English as a Second Language among Chinese students.
