Northwest State Community College
Archbold, Ohio

Lana Evans, Director of Grants and Research and former statistics instructor, has served as chapter advisor for the Alpha Omicron Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Northwest State Community College since 2003. She has received numerous awards in the fields of developmental education and community college research including the Kellogg Institute Certification as a Developmental Educator, the Ohio Association for Developmental Education Service Pin, and the Northwest State Community College Employee Recognition Award. Her work has also been published in the Community College Journal of Research and Practice.

Lana will use her Mosal Award stipend to apply the Rasch Measurement Method to data on commonly used placement test procedures. She will evaluate the usefulness of this measurement tool for establishing placement test cut score ranges based on empirical data rather than the quasi-scientific methods currently in use.
