Phi Theta Kappa - Honor Society

2006 Mosal Award Recipient

Richard Trombley
Oakland Community College - Orchard Ridge Campus
Farmington Hills, Michigan

Richard Trombley, a former English and psychology instructor, served as chapter advisor for the Alpha Omicron Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Oakland Community College - Orchard Ridge Campus from 1997 to 2006 and received the Robert Giles Distinguished Advisor Award for his outstanding work as an advisor. He was selected to attend the Galileo Leadership Academy, a two-year seminar on brain-based learning and service leadership. The focus of the seminar included leadership development, applications of brain/mind research to teaching and learning, and action research in education. Mr. Trombley also prepared numerous workshops on global/multi-cultural education. Sadly, Richard passed away before having an opportunity to complete his project.

Richard planned to use his Mosal Award stipend to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico, for a month-long experience of Spanish language and cultural immersion. His project was designed to expand his abilities to communicate within the global community, and allow him to make global/multi-cultural education a central theme in his English classes.
