Richard Ashmore, an alumnus from Lamar State College in Texas, received the Juror Award at Illuminance 2007 on March 2 for his photograph: Javelina Draw - Black and White, 2005. Illuminance is a national competitive photography exhibit that is produced by the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas. The Javelina Draw image was taken in Big Bend National Park and is a composite digital photograph, with the limited edition print measuring approximately two feet by five feet. "It's a three-layered panoramic photo with each horizontal layer slightly overlying the other vertically to produce one large, high resolution image," states Ashmore. It is composed of thirty-three images seamlessly spliced together, which were selected for their ability to blend perfectly with each other from over five-hundred photographs taken systematically of the landscape. Ashmore is currently an adjunct instructor in geology at Lamar University and doctorial student at Texas Tech University. For more Richard Ashmore photographs visit his website.
