International Alumni Benefits and Guidelines

The Phi Theta Kappa International Alumni Association Mission

The purpose of the Phi Theta Kappa International Alumni Association is to support and promote the people, programs and priorities of the Phi Theta Kappa Society, fostering and encouraging the communication and affiliation among all alumni and friends. These alumni and friends have valuable contributions to make to this Association through continuing the experience of fellowship by working with others who have shared in the Phi Theta Kappa experience. Together the alumni and friends can help insure a bright future for a new generation of scholars and leaders.

Membership

Any member of Phi Theta Kappa, who upon leaving community college was a member of good and regular standing and who was enrolled for at least one year in a two-year college, meets alumni status and is eligible to participate in alumni programs. There shall be no dues for alumni status. Also eligible for alumni participation are all honorary members of Phi Theta Kappa. Membership is open to all qualified persons without regard to race, creed, religion, sexual orientation or national origin. The alumni program offers alumni a variety of categories of membership from which to choose:

  1. Member at large
  2. Member of the International Alumni Association
  3. Member of a senior institution-based, community-based or region-based alumni association
  4. Member of multiple alumni associations simultaneously

Membership in the International Alumni Association of Phi Theta Kappa is awarded those alumni who provide financial support to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation.

Membership Benefits

All Phi Theta Kappa alumni who report their alumni status to Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters receive:

  1. Weekly email of the Golden Key News Briefs
  2. Listing in the Alumni Directory
  3. Key Vision newsletters
  4. Invitations to the International Convention, Honors Institute and alumni special events

    In addition, Alumni providing financial support to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation receive the following:

  5. Membership in the International Alumni Association and designation as such in the Alumni website Directory
  6. Visionary annual publication
  7. Recognition as an Honor Roll Donor to the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation

Membership Objectives

Membership provides a medium of contact between the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and former members, in order that Phi Theta Kappa may continue service to its members.

  1. To serve as mentors and assist two-year chapter members preparing to and in the process of transferring to senior institutions.
  2. To serve as career mentors for the benefit and assistance to the members and former members within your field of expertise.
  3. To provide leadership in efforts to raise funds for the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation; gifts or endowments for the improvement and advancement of the Mission of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
  4. To advise the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Department of senior institutions that may be receptive to establishing scholarships for Phi Theta Kappa members.
  5. To develop local speakers bureaus of alumni and friends with expertise in various disciplines for local chapters and high schools.
  6. To actively participate with local Phi Theta Kappa Chapter events when asked.
  7. To sponsor local initiatives which support the pursuit of excellence at all levels of education.

Meetings

The Phi Theta Kappa Alumni will hold their Annual Business Meeting at the International Convention as determined by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. This meeting includes but is not limited to a Headquarters Update, Alumni Advisory Council Report, and the Election of the Alumni Advisory Council Member to serve a one-year term.

Annual Fund

Phi Theta Kappa Alumni, working in cooperation with the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, will support the yearly efforts of the Annual Fund to solicit operating, programming, and scholarship fund support for the Society. Realizing the impact this activity has on the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, the Alumni will provide any organizational support necessary to ensure the success of the Annual Fund.

Modifications

Any modifications to The Phi Theta Kappa International Alumni Association can be submitted in writing to the Development Department a minimum of 30 days prior to the Society's International Convention for discussion and recommendation by the Alumni Advisory Council to the Phi Theta Kappa Board of Directors and Headquarters Staff.
