their local communities. Complete the enrollment

and begin planning your chapter's event today.
Last year chapters
set goals to impact their community and saw the results. The chapter at Texas
Southmost College/University of Texas in Brownsville set a goal to collect
2,004 books for the 2004 Southmost Library. Project Graduation Chair,
Roman Perez, commented, "We wanted to let everyone know about our goal and
where the books were going." In Indiana, the Ivy Tech State College - Sellersburg's
chapter collected donations benefiting the Providence House for Children's
new library.
Set your own book and canned food collection goals
this year during the planning stages of Project Graduation 2004. Taking
this extra step will create direction for your chapter and a sense of accomplishment
once you reach it. Your chapter is sure to increase the impact on your community
with the numerous Project Graduation resources
available online. Resources include: a detailed plan to organize your
event, downloadable posters, press release, media advisory, video, PowerPoint,
and graphics for your own use. Take advantage of these tools to create your
chapter's most successful Project Graduation event yet.
Chapters
from across the nation and abroad led to the success of Project Graduation
in 2003. A total of 438 chapters in 48 states and Saipan made an impact in their
communities by donating more than 60,000 food items and 40,000 books. Donations
were provided to food shelters, children's centers, libraries, churches,
and many more community agencies.
With the available resources
and the momentum from the past year, Project Graduation 2004 will be a resounding
success. And most importantly, community based organizations will be
able to help thousands affected by hunger and illiteracy due to the efforts
of community colleges around the country. It is just that simple, the community
college giving back to the community, one can of food and one book at a time.
Chapters
