GEICO Announces New Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships
GEICO, a national leader in car insurance and a past sponsor of the Phi Theta
Kappa International Convention, has announced plans to award two scholarships
of $1,000 each to the top scoring Leaders of Promise applicants who are also
business majors.
The GEICO Business Student Scholarships
will be available in 2009. Phi Theta Kappa business majors who apply for
the Leaders of Promise Scholarships will complete a brief additional section
of the application, which will include an essay question relating to business
and business ethics, and a letter of recommendation addressing the applicant's
business experience and potential.
"We are delighted that
GEICO is providing scholarship funds to recognize the future business
leaders in Phi Theta Kappa," said Society Executive Director Rod Risley.
"This new scholarship will provide more financial assistance to deserving
students, and also indicates an increased level of respect and confidence
in the Phi Theta Kappa Experience."
"GEICO has provided financial
support to Phi Theta Kappa's International Convention, and also offers
Phi Theta Kappa members substantial discount opportunities on car insurance.
We welcome this new evidence of support from an outstanding organization,
and look forward to a continuing beneficial relationship with GEICO,"
Risley said.
An applicant may receive both a Leader of Promise
Scholarship and a GEICO Business Student Scholarship. A total of 30 Leaders
of Promise Scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded annually. Applicants
will be awarded the GEICO Business Student Scholarships based on their
ranking in the Leaders of Promise competition.
Applications
for the 2009 Leaders of Promise and GEICO Business Student Scholarships
will be available in January. Applications will be due in May, and recipients
will be announced in mid-summer.
