Members Invited to Apply for NASA Opportunity

The National Community College Aerospace Scholars Program offers special opportunities for students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students must complete the online application by December 15, 2009.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be attending a community college in the U.S. An electronic copy of the applicant's transcript, and the email address of a faculty member who will provide a letter of recommendation are also required.

Students selected for the program will travel to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, May 20-22, 2010, to work with National Aeronautics and Space Administration engineers and scientists developing a proposal for a fictitious Martian rover.

Travel, food and lodging costs will be covered. Students who are chosen will pay only a $30 registration fee.

The Aerospace Scholars will also complete web-based lessons to prepare for the NASA workshop during the 2010 spring term.

In addition to the all expense-paid trip to NASA and the workshop, benefits for participating students include learning about career opportunities with NASA and networking with other community college students from across the U.S. who share similar interests.

The National Community College Aerospace Scholars is a pilot program funded by NASA's Exploration Systems Mission Directorate and administered by NASA Johnson Space Center.
