Al Gore's Environmental Documentary Wins Oscar Gold
An Inconvenient Truth, the environmental documentary by former
Vice President and Phi Theta Kappa International
Convention Keynote Speaker Al Gore, has won two Academy Awards.
The film received Oscars for Best Documentary and Best Original Song - I
Need to Wake Up by Melissa Etheridge.
The documentary is
based on the best-selling book of the same name and follows Gore's multimedia
presentation about climate change and the effects of global warming. The
film is the third highest-grossing documentary in the United States.
Gore
will deliver his keynote address at the Third General Session on Friday,
April 13, at 2:30 pm. Following his speech, a panel of Phi Theta Kappa members
will pose questions to the former Vice President on domestic and international
issues.
The special screening of An Inconvenient Truth
will take place at 8:30 pm that evening. After the film, Phi Theta Kappa Director
of Leadership Development Programs Monika Byrd will facilitate a conversation
with attendees about the film and positive changes they can make at their
colleges and in their communities.
