Imagine a World of Opportunities - Phi Theta Kappa's 2008 Convention

Imagine a world of opportunities - to hear world-class speakers, gain leadership skills, explore ways to give back to your community, and learn about transfer scholarships and careers. That world is waiting for you at Phi Theta Kappa's 2008 International Convention in Philadelphia, and now is the time to register.

Register online for Phi Theta Kappa's 2008 International Convention by February 29 to receive the lowest rate of $249 per person. The 90th anniversary Convention will be held April 3-5 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Events are scheduled at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and in the nearby Philadelphia Marriot hotel.

The three-day Convention will be preceeded by special development sessions for Phi Theta Kappa's chapter advisors and chapter and regional officers on April 2. Advisors may register at no charge for the International Advisor Education Conference. Chapter officers may register for the Chapter Officer Leadership Academy for $85 (nonrefundable). Regional officers must be registered for the Regional Officer Leadership Academy by their Regional Coordinators. The fee is also $85.

Convention highlights include five rounds of Educational Forums, focusing on Phi Theta Kappa programs and personal development and scholarship opportunities; presentations by Convention Keynote Speakers Christiane Amanpour, James Rubin and George Will; the International President's address by Casey Maliszewski, and remarks and updates from Executive Director Rod Risley. Chapters, regions and individuals will be recognized for excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship through the Society's Hallmark Awards presentations.

Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the first Cuban-American woman elected to the U.S. Congress, will be honored as Phi Theta Kappa's Distinguished Alumna. Ros-Lehtinen is a graduate of Miami-Dade College.

For the first time, this Convention will include a joint session with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Phi Theta Kappa chapters are reminded to encourage their college presidents to come early for AACC and attend Phi Theta Kappa Convention events, including a dinner for administrators. Phi Theta Kappa Convention registration fees have been waived for college presidents.

Members and advisors are invited to share interpretations of the Convention theme, Imagine a World, for consideration in Phi Theta Kappa Convention publications and graphics.

Free time is scheduled for Convention participants to visit Philadelphia attractions. Philadelphia's historic district, where Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell are located, is within walking distance of the Convention Center and Convention hotels.
