2008 Faculty Scholars Announced
Twenty-four Phi Theta Kappa advisors have been selected to serve as Faculty
Scholars for 2008. They will attend the Faculty Scholar Conference
at the Center for Excellence in late January, where they will receive extensive
instruction in various interdisciplinary aspects of the 2008-2010 Honors
Study Topic, The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences.
Presenters for the Faculty Scholar Conference include Dr.
Juliet Schor from Boston College, author of The Overspent American
and The Overworked American; Dr. Douglas Brinkley, author of The
Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Gulf
Coast, a professor at the James A. Baker III Institute at Rice University;
and former Ambassador and Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Alumnus Dr. David
Shinn, George Washington University.
Scholars will also begin
the Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Course certification process,
which will conclude prior to the 2008 International Honors Institute,
where the Faculty Scholars will serve as seminar leaders. Co-facilitators
for the certification will be Monika Byrd, Director of Leadership Development
Programs, and Dr. Jo Marshall, International Facilitator.

Director Rod Risley. "Their selection as Faculty Scholars recognizes
their academic and professional expertise, and provides them the stellar
opportunity to participate in a highly acclaimed professional development
program, in which they will be engaged with internationally recognized
speakers in an in-depth examination of the Society's Honors Study Topic.
