Water Crisis Causes Center for Excellence to Temporarily Close
The Center for Excellence, Phi Theta Kappa's Headquarters, is temporarily
closed due to water main outages, although a number of staff are continuing
to work offsite.
Unseasonable subfreezing temperatures in
the Jackson, Mississippi, area over the past week caused 123 breaks in water
mains, virtually crippling the city and causing schools and businesses
to close.
The Center for Excellence closed Tuesday, January
12, although many staff are working offsite to maintain operations. Read
a special alert here.
Jackson
city officials said on Wednesday that crews are working 24-hour shifts
to repair the breakage, although new breaks were reported overnight. Below-freezing
temperatures were predicted for Jackson Wednesday night, with a warming
trend expected on Thursday.
Daily updates concerning the Center
for Excellence status will be posted on the Phi Theta Kappa website.
The Center will be closed Monday, January 18, for the holiday honoring Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
