Phi Theta Kappa Members Walk for Sudan
The plight of the 27,000 "Lost Boys" of Sudan, and the ongoing devastation
in the war-ravaged country, inspired an Illinois Phi Theta Kappa member
to make a difference, with the help of Better
World Books.
Matt
Hoffman and his fellow Phi Theta Kappa members at Illinois Central
College have created Walk Sudan, to raise awareness and funds for the region
that has been devastated by 20 years of civil war and ethnic conflict.
The
chapter members will contribute their earnings from their campus Better
World Books drive to help build a library, and are also working
with Better World Books and Books for Africa to send books to Sudan.
Better
World Books will be using money from their newly created BWB
fund in addition to money generated by Walk Sudan to help cover
the cost of shipping books to Sudan.
"I've been fortunate to
witness the generosity, passion, and perseverance exhibited by Phi Theta
Kappa members and I know that, with a little effort, we can help rebuild southern
Sudan and become part of something bigger than ourselves,' said Hoffman.
