Convention Attendees Will Be Part of History-Making Event
Make history in Philadelphia - again. Phi Theta Kappa's 90th anniversary
Convention offers attendees an opportunity to take part in a session jointly
sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), and
attended by community college presidents.
Phi Theta Kappa's
International Convention
is scheduled for April 3-5 in Philadelphia. To celebrate Phi Theta Kappa's
past achievements and bright future, the Society's 2008 International
Convention's Fifth General Session, on April 5 at 5:00 pm, will also serve
as the Opening Session for the AACC Convention. College presidents and
college administrators, as well as Phi Theta Kappa members and advisors,
will be together in this joint session audience, and leaders from both organizations
will be on stage together to present the program.
Phi Theta Kappa
members and advisors may use this historic event to show their appreciation
to college administrators. If administrators are mingling or seated with
your group, thank them for their support. Some may even have questions about
your chapter's activities - let them know how valuable a vital, active chapter
can be. You may be winning much-needed administrative support for another
chapter, or encouraging an administrator to charter a chapter!
Before
you leave for Philadelphia, check with your college president's office
to see if your president and other administrators have registered for the
AACC Convention. If so - invite them to sit with your chapter during the joint
session.
Also, many college presidents, administrators,
and even exhibitors from AACC will come to this session and may be looking
for seats. Please show your Phi Theta Kappa hospitality and invite them
to sit with you even if they are not from your college or region.
During
the session, Phi Theta Kappa Executive Director Rod Risley will be presented
with the AACC
Leadership Award - come and see him honored for all of the things
he has has done for Phi Theta Kappa members and community colleges.
The
keynote speaker for the joint session will be Amy
Tan, best-selling novelist and a community college graduate.
