2009 Convention Offers More Opportunities than Ever Before
Phi Theta Kappa's 2009 Convention
is less than one month away! Register
by March 31 and avoid late fees. This Convention offers more learning experiences
and opportunities for personal growth than ever before!
Convention
dates are April 16-18, at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in
Grapevine, Texas. To make your Convention experience the best ever, your
hosts from the Texas Region will be waiting to welcome you and answer any
questions. Just watch for the bright orange badge worn by the Regional Ambassadors!
To
help with food costs, the Gaylord will provide $10 meal options at specific
times through hotel room service and at selected restaurants - display
your Convention nametag to qualify. Fast food vendors will be in the Academic
Marketplace, and food carts offering breakfast items, salads and sandwiches
will be in high traffic areas. Complete information on food specials
will be available on printed fliers distributed at Convention registration
and at the Information Booth.
Convention highlights include:
Honors
in Action Academy, April 15-16. This event replaces previous
pre-Convention events for Society leaders, and is now open to all advisors,
chapter and regional officers, and members. You will learn all about how
to plan and carry out an Honors in Action event, based on the Honors
Study Topic and incorporating the Society Hallmarks. To add an
Honors in Action registration to an existing registration, email convention@ptk.org.
Educational
Forums will provide more instruction on Honors in Action, which will now
form the basis for the Five Star and Hallmark Awards programs.
Special
Honors in Action Forums will follow presentations by keynote speakers
Robert
F. Kennedy, Jr., and Fareed
Zakaria. Led by Honors Commitee members, these Forums will ensure
that the keynote speeches provide the maximum learning experience.
New
Educational Forum topics include the Competitive Edge program, which
will allow you to use your Phi Theta Kappa opportunities to advance academically
and in your chosen career.
Other Educational Forums will address
financial planning, CollegeFish.org, applying for scholarships and
writing effective resumes, in addition to Society program information.
A
schedule of all five rounds of Educational Forums is coming soon to the Convention website.
Also
visit the website for information on the Transfer
College Fair, where members can meet one-on-one with recruiters
from institutions offering transfer scholarships.
