Honors Institute Participants to Visit Chicago's Cultural Attractions

Members and advisors attending the 2007 International Honors Institute at Wheaton College in Illinois will enjoy a day to visit historic and cultural sites in nearby Chicago, with travel and admissions to some attractions included as part of their registration.

All attendees will receive roundtrip train tickets to Chicago for Thursday, June 21, designated as "Go Chicago Day," and a "Go Chicago Card," which covers admittance for the day to such attractions as the Museum of Science and Industry, the Shedd Aquarium and the Architectural River Cruise. More than 25 attractions are included. Attendees are invited to visit the Go Chicago Card website to plan their itinerary.

The website includes information on the most popular itineraries, frequently asked questions about the uses of the Go Chicago Card, and descriptions of all covered attractions, museums and tours.

Each attendee will also receive a Go Chicago Guidebook, which includes city maps, subway information and tips on efficient planning. Travel from Union Station to the various Go Chicago attractions is not included, and participants are responsible for all meals on "R&R Day." The Go Chicago Card covers a pass on the Gray Line "Hop On Hop Off" Trolley Tour, which stops at many well-known attractions, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Field Museum and Navy Pier. Trolley passes must be picked up at designated Gray Line locations.

Phi Theta Kappa's 2007 International Honors Institute is scheduled for June 18-25 at Wheaton College. Participants will devote a week to intense examination of the Honors Study Topic, Gold, Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power.

Speakers include former CNN correspondant Ralph Begleiter, Afghan American author Tamim Ansary, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Dr. David Oshinsky, Phi Theta Kappa Director of Leadership Development Programs Monika Byrd, Nevada/California Regional Coordinator Judy Ryan and religions scholar Reza Aslan. Sessions will also include a theatrical spoken word performance, "The Road to Darfur," and the popular Town Meeting on current issues, moderated by Faculty Scholar Rob Carey. Seminar small-group discussions will follow each presentation.

Honors Institute highlights also include the Honors Institute Choir, and Kappa Klatch, literary presentations by participants, inspired by the Honors Study Topic. Chapter and regional officers attending will take part in a special leadership activity and programs update. Advisors will have the opportunity to participate in optional Round Table discussions on issues related to chapter programs.

Preceding the Honors Institute will be the International Leadership Conference for Phi Theta Kappa's regional officers and Regional Coordinators. The registration deadline for both events is May 25.
