Chapters: Consider A Better World Books Book Drive
With the end of the school year fast approaching, many students will be selling
their used textbooks back to the bookstore. But what if the books cannot
be bought back? A viable alternative is Better World Books.
Many
Phi Theta Kappa chapters are taking advantage of this unique fundraising
opportunity by implementing book drives on their campuses with their administrations'
and book stores' approval.
What happens to the books when they
are donated to Better World Books?
1. The books are sold online:
Because the needs in many countries are diverse, the most efficient method
of sending resources to promote literacy around the world is to send money.
If the donated books are in good condition and have value, they are sold at
betterworld.com. One hundred percent of the profit after costs is then
sent to the literacy partner that each chapter chooses and used by that literacy
partner to help fulfill their missions.
2. The books are
sent to the literacy partners: Many times, books can not be sold because
they are slightly old editions even though the information may be fairly
current. If a book can be used by a literacy partner, that book is then shipped
to the literacy partner of the chapter's choice.
3. The books
are recycled: If a book cannot be sold online or shipped to a literacy
partner, it is recycled. Better World Books has kept more than 8 million
pounds of books out of landfills since the organization began to sponsor
book drives.
