Phi Theta Kappa Member to Appear on CBS Early Show November 30
Returning to college in her 50's not only earned Ginger Huey membership
in Phi Theta Kappa, but also a spot on the CBS Early Show. Huey, a member
at Mt. San Jacinto College in California, will be featured on the CBS
Early Show on Thursday, November 30, to tell her story about going back
school later in life.
Huey was chosen for the early morning show
after her eldest daughter wrote a letter to the network about her mother's
decision to go back to school and her perseverance through a tough year.
Producers and a camera crew visited with Huey and filmed a four-hour
block photo shoot of her at work, home, school, and in a classroom. Huey says
she still in shock over the opportunity to have her story told on national
television.
Working in customer service for five years, Huey
wanted a career change and saw community college as her opportunity. The
decision to attend Mt. San Jacinto College came four years ago when Huey
received a booklet in the mail from the college.
She admits she
was reluctant to go back to school with so many "sharp, goal-oriented 18-20
year-olds" but she discovered community college is where she belonged.
Huey will graduate in December with degrees in Gerontology
and Social Behavioral Science. Currently employed at a local radio station,
Huey says she would like to work with social services for the elderly.
