Phi Theta Kappa Member Featured on CBS Early Show
Returning to college in her 50's not only earned Ginger Huey membership
in Phi Theta Kappa, but also a spot on the CBS Early Show. Huey, a member
at Mt. San Jacinto College in California, was featured on the CBS Early
Show on Thursday, November 30.
Huey was chosen for the early
morning show after her eldest daughter wrote a letter to the network about
her mother's decision to go back to school and her perseverance through
a tough year.
Huey's appearance was part of The Early Show
Magic Moments, a series focused on making a special moment in someone's
life magical. During the show, Huey was surprised by American Idol finalist
Kellie Pickler, who will take Huey on a shopping spree and to the Academy
Of Country Music Awards in May.
Working in customer service
for five years, Huey wanted a career change and saw community college as
her opportunity. The decision to attend Mt. San Jacinto College came four
years ago when Huey received a booklet in the mail from the college.
She
admits she was reluctant to go back to school with so many "sharp, goal-oriented
18-20 year-olds" but she discovered community college is where she belonged.
Huey will graduate in December with degrees in Gerontology
and Social Behavioral Science. Currently employed at a local radio station,
Huey says she would like to work with social services for the elderly.
