Invite Your College Presidents to Phi Theta Kappa's Convention Celebration!

Invite your college president to the 2008 International Convention and make your college administration more aware of ways an engaged chapter can benefit your college.

Phi Theta Kappa's 90th anniversary International Convention is scheduled April 3-5 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the theme is "Imagine a World." For the first time in history, Phi Theta Kappa and the American Association of Community Colleges - made up of college presidents and administrators - will meet together in Philadelphia and hold a joint Convention session on April 5, which will officially open the AACC event.

Phi Theta Kappa's International President Casey Maliszewski and Executive Director Rod Risley will be featured speakers during the joint session. And, so they may learn firsthand about Phi Theta Kappa, college presidents are invited to arrive in Philadelphia in time to attend Phi Theta Kappa Convention events on April 4-5. Convention registration fees will be waived for all college presidents.

Very soon all chapters will receive printed invitations to the Phi Theta Kappa Convention events and the joint Phi Theta Kappa/AACC General Session. Chapter leaders are encouraged to hand-deliver this invitation to their college president - and Good as Gold Week, November 12-16, is the perfect opportunity! Make an appointment now to meet with your college president during Good as Gold Week, to present the invitation and encourage your president to attend. Presidents may register by returning a response card enclosed with the invitation.

College presidents will be guests at a dinner in their honor on Friday, April 4, at 6:15 pm, with Convention keynote speakers Christiane Amanpour and James Rubin. Presidents are also invited to the Friday evening General Session at 8:00 pm, when Amanpour and Rubin will speak; and to the Saturday morning General Session at 9:00 am, to hear speaker George Will.

The joint session will begin at 5:00 pm on Saturday.

"The timing of the Phi Theta Kappa Convention and the AACC Convention gives us a perfect opportunity to show college presidents how an energized Phi Theta Kappa chapter can make a real difference on their campus and be a force for change in the community," said Executive Director Risley. "We hope that inviting college presidents to our Convention will benefit chapters through increased administrative support. We want the presidents to be as excited about Phi Theta Kappa as our members are - and the Convention can make that happen."

Another opportunity for chapters comes through the Hallmark Awards for Administrators. Nominate your college president for the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, and honor vice presidents and deans with the Distinguished Administrator Awards. Visit the Hallmark Awards website for information and entry forms now - remember, Hallmark Awards for Administrators have an early deadline - December 7.
