Make "Good as Gold Week" Special on your Campus
Just a month remains before Good as Gold Week, a celebration of Phi Theta
Kappa's Hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship,
and the Society's 89th birthday.
Plan special events on your
campus during the week of November 12-16 to show how Phi Theta Kappa membership
is "Good as Gold," and continue the celebration on Phi Theta Kappa Founders
Day, November 19.
Each day of "Good as Gold Week" is devoted to
specific commemorations of Phi Theta Kappa's mission and Hallmarks:
Monday,
November 12: Show Your Appreciation
Use this day to recognize
your chapter advisors, college administrators, faculty and staff for
supporting your chapter, Phi Theta Kappa's mission, and your college.
Invite your college president and administrators to attend Phi Theta Kappa's
2008 International Convention,
which includes a joint session with the American Association of Community
Colleges' convention. Invitations will be supplied to chapter leaders.
Tuesday,
November 13: Encourage Scholarship
Invite your campus
and community to view the final Honors Satellite Seminar, American
Theocracy: Politics, Radical Religion, Oil, and Borrowed Money in the
21st Century, with presenter Kevin
Phillips, known as the "modern Thomas Paine." Watch to see if your
chapter will win a complimentary subscription to the 2008 Satellite Seminar
Series - winners will be selected from 2007 subscribers.
Wednesday,
November 14: Serve Your Community
Providing opportunities
to give back through service is part of Phi Theta Kappa's mission. Plan activities
on Wednesday devoted to Operation Green: Improving Our Communities,
Phi Theta Kappa's International
Service Program. Organize a campus or community cleanup, promote
recycling or graffiti cleanup, or promote awareness of the importance
of protecting the environment.
Thursday, November 15:
Advance Education
Plan a college fair on your campus, highlighting
four-year institutions offering Phi Theta Kappa transfer scholarships,
or set up a special table offering information about Society membership
benefits and other Phi Theta Kappa scholarships, including the Guistwhite
Scholars, Leaders of Promise and the All-USA Academic Team and All-State
Team programs.
Friday, November 16: Develop Leadership
Organize
a leadership development workshop for all club and organization officers
on your campus. Invite a certified Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development
Studies instructor to facilitate or utilize Phi Theta Kappa's online
resources to plan the event.
Monday, November
19 - Founders Day
On Monday, November 19, join in one of the
Society's oldest traditions by celebrating Founders
Day. Host a party in a high-traffic area on campus, and decorate
with a Phi Theta Kappa banner, chapter photos, and blue and gold balloons.
Advertise your plans and appoint an event photographer.
Invite
all members to wear their Phi Theta Kappa pins and/or shirts for the day.
Remember - all members may shop Recognitions
Online November 12-16 and receive a 10 percent discount by using
the promotional code GGW07 when placing orders. (Only one promotional

Kappa print or web publication! Each chapter may submit up to three high-resolution
