Kansas Chapters Team with Entertainer Kevin Sharp to Strike Out Cancer
Working together, three Kansas chapters of Phi Theta Kappa have raised
more than $3,000 for Relay For Life, through their bowling tournament,
"Strike Out Cancer."
Chapters at Independence Community College,
Labette Community College and Coffeyville Community College sponsored
the bowling event, which drew teams from area businesses and organizations.
A
special guest was entertainer Kevin Sharp, a cancer survivor and 2007 International
Convention speaker. Sharp and band members presented a concert after the
bowling event.
Prizes included Most Money Raised by Team, won
by the Cessna group, captained by Independence Community College chapter
alumna Geri Turner; Most Money Raised individually, won by Turner; Best
Use of Pink for a Team, awarded to the Labette Community College chapter
team; and Best Team Table; won by the team from Coffeyville Regional Medical
Center.
Relay For Life, the signature fundraising activity
for the American Cancer Society, has honored Phi Theta Kappa twice for being
their top collegiate contributor.
The American Cancer Society
was Phi Theta Kappa's International Service Program partner in 2002-2006.
Relay For Life remains a Phi Theta Kappa civic
engagement initiative.
