Longtime Regional Coordinator Loses Battle with Cancer
Connie Ranard-Chandler, longtime Nebraska/Wyoming Regional Coordinator,
died September 1 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services are to
be held September 5 at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler's West Center
Chapel in Omaha, Nebraska. A memorial reception is scheduled for September
5 at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, where she served as a Phi Theta
Kappa chapter advisor for 17 years.
Ranard-Chandler, 66, was
a mathematics instructor at Metropolitan Community College. She was a
teacher for more than 40 years at schools in both Nebraska and Iowa. She became
the Phi Theta Kappa advisor at Metropolitan in 1990, and was appointed Nebraska/Wyoming
Regional Coordinator in 1995.
Ranard-Chandler was a certified
Leadership Development Studies instructor. She also acted as advisor
of the Phi Theta Kappa Nebraska/Wyoming Alumni Association.
"Connie
was dedicated to Phi Theta Kappa and to her students," said Rod Risley, Phi
Theta Kappa Executive Director. "She was an inspirational leader and a
kind and gentle person, whose strength and passion made an indelible mark
on the lives of countless students and colleagues. Even after she became
ill, she continued to give so much of herself to her students, her chapter,
the Nebraska/Wyoming Region, and to the entire Phi Theta Kappa organization."
"Connie
was an inspiration to us all. We are grateful to have had the opportunity
to work with her, and we will miss her always," Risley concluded.

She is survived by her husband, C. Lloyd
Chandler; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Pam Ranard, all Omaha; Jeff
and Rebecca Ranard, Blanco, Texas; grandchildren, Lydia and Alyssa Ranard,
Omaha; Nick Lassen and wife Teresa, Ashland, Nebraska; Melissa Childers
and Bailey Childers, both of Austin, Texas; and Elizabeth Childers of Blanco.
The
family has requested that memorials be sent to the Phi
Theta Kappa Foundation or to Hospice House, 7415 Cedar St., Omaha,
NE 68124.
