Why Volunteer for the Peace Corps?
As your thoughts turn to your next steps in life, and you're weighing the many
professional choices open to you, give some consideration to the prospect of
enhancing your career by working overseas.
You could be living and working for 27 months in a community, encouraging people to adopt sustainable behaviors that promote health, prevent illness/disease, and facilitate rehabilitation, or helping people who are directly affected by the threat of deforestation.
You could help communities and organizations capitalize on available and appropriate information technology, bridging the divide between those who can afford access to technology and those who cannot. The experience you gain in that role encompasses a depth and range of responsibilities that can be difficult to find in a typical American workplace.
As a Peace Corps Volunteer, you act as a catalyst for change and continually redefine your role in response to the needs of your community. At the same time, you learn and grow personally every day through the exciting and humbling experience of adapting to another culture and finding your place in it.
