Honorary membership may be granted at the discretion of the local chapter as a means of honoring outstanding supporters of Phi Theta Kappa. Many chapters choose to make their advisors, college presidents and outstanding community leaders who have provided support over the years honorary members. Honorary membership certificates cost $10.00 and may be obtained by contacting the Membership Services Department.
Criteria for Honorary Membership is as follows:
- A student or recent alumnus should not be named an honorary member.
- Honorary membership should only be conferred upon an individual who has shown consistent and outstanding support to the local chapter.
- An individual who is selected as an honorary member should represent the ideals on which Phi Theta Kappa is based. The individual should be of high character, intellectual ability and should exhibit a level of accomplishment worthy of recognition within the Society. Like alumni members, honorary members should be afforded all rights and privileges of membership – with the exception of the right to vote or hold office. This means they may wear the Golden Key membership pin and other recognition items bearing emblems of Phi Theta Kappa.
- Honorary members do not pay membership fees.
