The Southern Region

This region has seen a recent growth in population over the years. Is the warm weather or the southern hospitality? Those are possibly two reasons but it may be because major cities such as Houston and Atlanta are home to giants in the medical research and telecommunications field – many of them Fortune 500 companies.

Receive your degree in engineering or biology and a job in Houston may be available for you at the one of the city’s major medical research facilities including the Human Genome Sequencing Center. While a bachelor’s and master’s degree is standard for biomedical researcher position, entry-level opportunities are possible.

Graduates in information technology can find employment as database administrators or telecommunication specialists for companies like BellSouth and Cingular Wireless both located in Atlanta.

The Northern Region

Cold nights and the threat of winter snow storms are not keeping graduates in the fields of finance and advertising away from the big cities of Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Considered to be the accountancy center of the nation, the city of Chicago provides an ample amount of employment opportunities for those with a degree in accounting or finance.

A productive consumer goods industry in the northern region creates a demand for individuals with degrees in advertising or marketing. Earn a bachelor’s degree in communication or design and a job in the northern region may provide a profitable position.

The Western Region

Head west for careers in the medical and computer software fields. While Hollywood is the capital of the entertainment industry, the need in California is not for actors but for nurses.

Currently facing a severe nursing shortage, the state of California is offering the nation’s highest salaries to those who obtain an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Positions are also available for those with a technical degree in Health Information Technology or Occupational Therapy.

There are also plenty of opportunities in the western region for community college graduates in computer science or information technology. The state of California and the city of Seattle play home to the computer industry’s top software companies including Microsoft, Adobe, Sun Microsystems and Symantec.

The Eastern Region

Home to financial giant Wall Street and the big lights of Broadway, the Big Apple offers big opportunities for those entering the workforce in the business, media and the creative design sectors.

New York City is at the center of the international business industry with many hot jobs in insurance and finance. Become an employment recruitment specialist and help other business degree graduates land positions as investment bankers or personal financial planners at one of the city’s top financial institutions.

Go from assistant editor of the school newspaper to editor-in-chief at one of the 200 newspapers, 350 magazines or major book publishers who call New York City home. Journalism and communication graduates have quite a selection of job prospects in the city which known as “the media capital of the world.”

Turn the fashion industry on its heels by arriving in New York City with your associate degree in fashion design. Many of the fashion design schools within the city and throughout the east coast offer technical training to recent graduates. Exposure to the most elite fashion houses can also help expand a new designer’s portfolio.
