Phi Theta Kappa - Honor Society

Rebekah Danielson
Division II International Vice President

Rebekah Danielson

Rebekah Danielson, International Vice President - Division II, is planning a career in international service. She currently attends St. Johns River Community College in St. Augustine, Florida, where she was inducted into the Alpha Xi Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

A Biology major at community college, she plans to study International Affairs at her transfer institution. Her career plans call for her to combine her love of people and love of travel to work to provide better living conditions for persons in need in places all over the world.

Affordability and the small classes attracted her to St. Johns River Community College, which she says has "prepared me academically for a four year institution and given me the opportunity to succeed and realize my full potential before going to a large school."

In spite of the growing importance of community colleges in higher education, Rebekah feels that some students in two-year programs are not taken seriously. She hopes that will change, and that scholarships and other financial aid opportunities to encourage community college students to transfer will increase.

One of her first goals she set for herself at community college was to be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. "I longed for the opportunity to make a difference, make myself and make my family proud," Rebekah said.

She has served her chapter as Vice President of Leadership and as President. Rebekah was also elected President of the campus speech club and has held office in student government. She is a student ambassador.

Rebekah has received her college's Best Speaker Award and Character Counts Award, been named to Who's Who and to the Hall of Fame. She also won a chapter scholarship.

One of six children, Rebekah grew up in a musical family. Her mother is a classical pianist and her father studied classical guitar before returning to school to pursue a PhD in Philosophy and Religious Ethics. Rebekah has studied violin, plays the piano and sings, and is an accomplished dancer. Also an animal lover, Rebekah worked with horses for many years. Since entering college she has worked at a fashion boutique.
