Scholarship Programs Assistant, Monday, November 16, 2009

Position: Scholarship Programs Assistant

Reports To: Director of Scholarship Programs

Objective: To assist with the coordination of all Scholarship Programs

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with the administration, distribution of applications, promotion and judging of existing internally funded and/or administered scholarship programs including the All-USA Community College Academic Team, the New Century Scholars, the Guistwhite Scholarships, Leaders of Promise/GEICO Business Student Scholarship, and Frank Lanza Memorial Scholarship programs
  • Administer the disbursement of funds for internally funded scholarships and notification of winners and nominees
  • Assist with planning, administration and logistics of All-Mississippi Academic Team program and recognition program
  • Provide customer service to institutions and organizations utilizing or interested in Phi Theta Kappa community college transfer recruitment tools and services
  • Provide customer service to individuals seeking information about scholarships, CollegeFish.org and other community college transfer offerings
  • Administration and support of the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team
  • Administration and support of the All-State Academic Team program, working with All-State contacts to enhance the ceremonies and benefits for states currently administering programs and in the process of building programs
  • Provide senior institution partners with All-USA Community College Academic Team nomination information
  • Assist with coordination of logistics for the annual Presidents Breakfast and New Century Scholars activities at the American Association of Community Colleges annual convention
  • Assist with other projects as requested
 

Qualifications Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree required, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work
  • 1-2 years office administration experience required
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and report-writer

Director of Scholarship Programs and Senior College Relations, Friday, November 06, 2009

Position: Director of Scholarship Programs and Senior College Relations

Reports To: Associate Executive Director

Objective: To direct Scholarship Programs Department initiatives including internal scholarship programs and develop relationships, initiatives and scholarships with Senior Colleges. To establish CollegeFish.org in community college and senior college markets.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and implement strategies for the successful launch and continued adaptation of CollegeFish.org by community college and senior college officials and students
  • Implement effective strategies to ensure the growth and development of partnerships with senior colleges
  • Cultivate relationships with senior colleges, organizations, businesses and individuals to identify scholarship and aid opportunities for Phi Theta Kappa members
  • Promote Phi Theta Kappa as a leader in the community college student transfer arena
  • Oversee all internally funded and/or administered scholarship programs
  • Coordinate the All-Mississippi Academic Team ceremony in cooperation with the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges and Mississippi Community College President’s Association
  • Oversee the administration and support of the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team
  • Develop and oversee the production of partnership-promoting publications such as the Partners in Excellence Scholarship Directory
  • Research and promote additional resources for scholarship and financial aid opportunities for community college students
  • Provide leadership to the Scholarship Programs Department staff
  • Collaborate with senior management to establish department goals and objectives
  • Maintain departmental budget and ensure that initiatives, programs and operations are cost effective
 

Qualifications Required:

  • Master’s degree required, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work
  • Five-ten years of admissions or financial aid department management at senior or community college required
  • Knowledge of student financial aid programs and related regulations helpful
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including public presentations

Executive Assistant to the Associate Executive Director, Monday, November 02, 2009

Position: Executive Assistant to the Associate Executive Director

Reports To: Associate Executive Director

Objective: To enhance the Associate Executive Director’s effectiveness by providing high-level executive support.

Responsibilities Include:

The Executive Assistant will be responsible for the coordination of an industrious executive office. Multiple tasks and projects will be independently managed with competing priorities and deadlines. Communications will be prioritized, organized, and maintained. The management of details of a confidential and critical nature will be expected. Other responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Handling information requests, arrange conference calls, and schedule meetings
• Managing and maintaining the Associate Executive Director’s schedule/calendar
• Reading and analyze incoming memos, correspondence, and reports to determine their significance and plan their distribution
• Processing and composing correspondence and/or reports
• Coordinating all details associated to travel
• Managing all details related to the organization, sanction, and submission of work related expenses
• Anticipating the needs of the Associate Executive Director and act accordingly
• Providing support with tasks related to event planning and/or any projects as requested by the Conference and Special Projects Manager

Qualifications Required:

• Baccalaureate degree preferred or 3 years experience serving as Executive Assistant
• Proficiency in computer skills, including Internet, Outlook, Word, Excel, and other software
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• Travel as required

Key Services Assistant - Temporary, Monday, November 02, 2009

Position: Key Services Assistant - Temporary

Reports To: Director of Key Services

Objective: To provide assistance and services to Phi Theta Kappa constituents related specifically to encouraging member and chapter development and engagement. Approximately 29 hours per week through June, 2010

Responsibilities Include:

• Welcome and assist callers and visitors to the Center for Excellence
• Develop a basic understanding of the benefits of membership in the organization including partner benefits, programs supported by the organization, governing policies of the organization, and standard operating procedures for members and chapters
• Assist with printing and mailing correspondence necessary to ensure members receive full benefits of membership and chapter, regional, collegiate
and international leaders are appropriately supported and recognized for their contributions to the organization.
• Assist with assuring the quality of the database
• Assist with outreach efforts to ensure member and chapter development and engagement
• Assist with the entry and processing of award applications
• Assist with logistics of events in support of member and chapter development and engagement as requested by Director of Key Services
• Perform other duties as requested by the Director of the Key Services

Qualifications Required:

• Associate degree or equivalent. Baccalaureate degree preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ability to learn new software programs quickly
• Excellent oral/written communication, organizational skills
• Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
• Must be self-motivated and willing to assume responsibility for duties without constant supervision
