Good as Gold Week
To help chapters increase visibility on campus, attain Pinnacle Goals and promote chapter activities, the third week of November is again designated Good as Gold Week. The five-day period will serve as a "Spirit Week" for chapters to share excitement about Phi Theta Kappa and spread the word about the Society on campus.
Monday: Pinnacle Gold Day
- Set up a Phi Theta Kappa information booth on campus with Good as Gold resources. Wear Phi Theta Kappa shirts and pins. Show the member recruitment video at the booth and display pictures and newspaper articles highlighting chapter projects.
- Hold a Second Chance Phone-a-Thon. Members split the lists of eligible students who did not accept membership this semester, and call each personally to let them know it's not too late. Use the Phone-a-Thon Script available online at www.ptk.org/pinnacle/samplescript.pdf.
- Honor your chapter's December graduates early! Order stoles and tassels in advance, and arrange for a special Stole and Tassel Presentation Ceremony. Invite the graduates' family and friends to attend, and host a reception after the ceremony.
Tuesday: Scholarship Day
- Plan a Scholarship Fair on campus for nearby four-year institutions. Highlight Phi Theta Kappa transfer scholarship opportunities. Invite alumni members to present a workshop on preparing scholarship applications.
- Hold an informational seminar for eligible members about the Leaders of Promise Scholarships, supported by Phi Theta Kappa to assist new members in completing their Associate Degrees.
- Invite a faculty member to lead a discussion following tonight's final Satellite Seminar broadcast. Arun Ghandi, grandson of renowned activist for peace Mahatma Ghandi, presents, "Lessons Learned from My Grandfather." Don't have a subscription? Contact other chapters in your region to find a nearby chapter who can accommodate your members for the broadcast.
Wednesday: Civic Engagement Day
- Contact local or national officials about an issue important to your members. Create a form letter or email petition for interested students to sign and send to your representatives.
- Talk to local community relief agencies to find out what the most pressing needs are in your area. Mobilize your members to help!
- The Peace Corps now offers special service opportunities for two-year college graduates. Invite a representative from your local Peace Corps office to speak on your campus.
Thursday: Service Day
- Implement the International Service Program, Operation Green, while you participate in the Great American Smokeout! Host a Kick Butts Day to clean up cigarette litter on campus or at another location in the community. Purchase and install cigarette receptacles in problem areas.
- Plant a tree on campus - or several! November marks the end of the best time to plant trees in the North, and the beginning of the best time to plant in the South.
- Contact your local Keep America Beautiful affiliate and ask about educational resources you can distribute on campus.
Friday: Founders Day Celebration
- Show your appreciation for college faculty and staff! Host an Appreciation Luncheon or Tea on campus. Induct an administrator or faculty member who has shown exceptional support of the chapter as an honorary member.
- Happy Birthday to us! Have a Phi Theta Kappa birthday party on your campus, complete with cake, ice cream and Good as Gold balloons.
- Honor your chapter, advisors, college president, chartering officers, or alumni chapter with the purchase of a commemorative brick. Bricks naming your honorees will become a permanent part of the Alpha Courtyard at the Center For Excellence in Jackson, Mississippi.
