2006 Mosal Award Winners

The Mosal Awards carry stipends of $5,000 to be used to complete a project designed to recognize outstanding professional achievement of Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisors and to encourage and support the individual growth of chapter advisors through professional development.

Eric Chong
Guam Community College
Barrigada, Guam

Eric will use his stipend to travel to China to immerse himself in the Chinese language and to gain a greater awareness of his own cultural heritage. While there, he will also examine the edu-tourism industry and the potential to promote English as a Second Language among Chinese students.

Lana Evans
Northwest State Community College
Archbold, Ohio

Lana will apply the Rasch Measurement Method to data on commonly used placement test procedures. She will evaluate the usefulness of this measurement tool for establishing placement test cut score ranges based on empirical data rather than the quasi-scientific methods currently in use.

Richard Trombley
Oakland Community College - Orchard Ridge
Farmington Hills, Michigan

Richard will use his stipend to travel to Oaxaca, Mexico to improve his Spanish language skills and immerse himself in the local culture. Through this valuable educational experience, he aims to improve communication between educators in Oaxaca and Michigan in hopes of enhancing an existing student exchange program.
