Suggested Timeline
Right Now:
- Review the Chapter Resource Manual, the 2002-04 Program Guide and www.ptk.org to learn about Phi Theta Kappa programs.
- Select which Hallmarks your chapter will focus on in the coming year.
- To compete in the Distinguished Chapter category, plan comprehensive programs in all four Hallmarks.
- Conduct activities centered on Phi Theta Kappa's Hallmarks.
- Keep a file of flyers, photos, clippings and project notes as events occur.
- Compile a list of activities specific to each Hallmark. Include the date, name and brief description of the event. Add to the list as events are completed. Include only projects that take place between February 21, 2003 and February 20, 2004. This will become your Chronological List when the time arrives to prepare your award entries.
- Finalize appointments to your Awards Committee.
- Designate committee members to write essays, compile chronological lists,
request letters of recommendation and proofread.
- Designate a separate committee member to coordinate individual award nominations.
- Begin writing the essays.
- Begin editing the chronological lists.
- Complete essays and chronological lists.
- Members should proof and correct essays before passing them to advisors for a
final review.
- Consider asking an English instructor, journalism instructor or a chapter
alumnus to proof your essays as well.
- Remind writers of your recommendation letters that you will collect these
letters in two weeks.
- Review your collection of flyers, photos, clipping and program notes. Select the best for inclusion with your entries.
- Assemble your packets. Prepare the cover sheets making sure your advisor signs
each one.
- Complete and include the Entry Checklist and Media Information Form.
- Prepare two copies of each entry, and keep a third copy for your records.
- Double-check your package to insure that all required elements have been
included.
- Ship your applications so they will arrive before the deadline.
- Awards must be received at Headquarters by 5:00 p.m. Late, emailed or faxed entries will not be judged.
April 1-3
- Winners are announced at the International Convention in
Minneapolis, Minnesota.
