Distribute the guide on campus and in supermarkets throughout your community. When providing this service, discover what role immigrants play in your community.
Research the Crusades and develop a survey to learn how others perceive these important historical events. Using the survey results, write an article for your school and/or city newspaper in which you provide facts and debunk popular myths about the Crusades. Include your survey results to substantiate your writing.
Select an appropriate issue from the National Issues Forums Institute, www.nifi.org. Read the discussion guide and select forum speakers with differing views on the topic. Using the step-by-step guide on the National Issues Forums website, host a public forum in your community.
Invite a geologist, oceanographer, or other expert to a chapter meeting to discuss the effects of dams and controlled waterways on the environment and the economy.
Watch the documentary The Angry Eye, and discuss the relationship between power and discrimination.
Volunteer at a shelter for battered women and children. For privacy reasons, you may not be able to meet the residents, but talk to the counselors and other volunteers to learn about the power struggles the residents have experienced. Ask how you, as a volunteer, can empower them to change their lives.
