2015 Honors Institute: R & R Day
On Thursday, June 18, no activities or events are scheduled for R & R Day. Participants are responsible for all fees, including transportation, admissions and all meals on R & R Day.
One of the oldest cities in the U.S., Albuquerque boasts a multicultural heritage and history where Native American, Hispanic /Latino, Anglo and other cultural influences are a part of everyday life. Dine at one of the city’s traditional New Mexican restaurants, shop at one of its more than 3,000 shops and galleries, or enjoy its world-class visual and performing arts.
With 310 days of sunshine annually, Albuquerque is ideal for outdoor activities, including golfing, hiking, biking and skiing. Its weather patterns also make it the Hot Air Balloon Capital of the World. Balloons dot the city’s clear blue skies almost every morning.
Bordering UNM to the south, the primary corridor for Albuquerque visitors is Central Ave., the original Route 66. It travels west from UNM through the downtown entertainment district, the shopping and dining area of historic Old Town, and past Albuquerque’s Botanic Gardens and Aquarium.
To the east of UNM, Nob Hill is a district bursting with funky shops, swanky dining and chic nightspots. Route 66 neon signs and eclectic architecture combine with locally-owned shops, galleries and restaurants to make Nob Hill a hip and fashionable area. New developments north of Central make the Uptown entertainment district an attractive area to visit as well with shopping, dining and new entertainment venues.
Museums on the UNM campus, include the following.
- The John Summers Gallery
- Maxwell Museum of Anthropology
- Meteorite Museum
- Museum of Southwestern Biology
- Silver Family Geology Museum
