Two Accomplished Members to Receive Distinguished Alumni Awards

Oceanographer and deep-sea explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle, and St. Louis, Missouri Mayor Clarence Harmon will receive Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Alumni Awards for 2000 during the International Convention in Orlando, Florida, April 20-22. Dr. Earle, an alumna of Eta Nu Chapter at St. Petersburg Junior College in St. Petersburg, Florida, will also provide a Convention keynote address to introduce the 2000-01 Honors Study Topic, "In the Midst of Water: Origin and Destiny of Life." Mayor Harmon was inducted into the Society's Xi Epsilon Chapter at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park Campus in St. Louis. Both honorees will also serve on the panel of alumni who will pose questions to Debate of the Millennium participants Dr. Jeane Kirkpatrick (Phi Theta Kappa's Distinguished Alumna in 1983) and Geraldine Ferraro.
