Illinois Chapter Scores "E-cycling" Success

Phi Theta Kappa members at Danville Area Community College in Illinois have become "e-cyclers" in a big way. The chapter and the area Keep Vermillion County Beautiful organization recently hosted a recycling collection for electronics, which will keep more than five trailer truckloads of old computers and televisions from becoming environmental hazards. Studies indicate that electronic and electrical equipment waste is growing three times faster than municipal solid waste. A number of states ban electronics' disposal in landfills, and national regulatory legislation has been proposed. Phi Theta Kappa's current International Service Program is Operation Green: Improving Our Communities. The e-cycling event was funded by a grant from a national waste management firm and Keep America Beautiful, Phi Theta Kappa's International Service Program partner. Enroll your chapter as a Chapter of Service.
