Keep America Beautiful Salutes Former First Lady
Keep America Beautiful, Phi Theta Kappa's International Service Program partner, has posted an online tribute to the late Lady Bird Johnson, former First Lady of the United States and a longtime environmental champion. In the early years of Keep America Beautiful, Mrs. Johnson's support brought national attention to the agency and its efforts to bring environmental concerns into the public consciousness. Mrs. Johnson, whose late husband, Lyndon Baines Johnson, was the 37th President of the United States, died July 11 at her home in Texas. She is credited as being one of the first national leaders to understand and appreciate the necessity of national awareness of environmental responsibility.
