Honors in Action: Arizona Chapter Champions Environment

Phi Theta Kappa members at Mesa Community College in Arizona recently took the lead in promoting environmental awareness by commemorating World Environment Day, sponsored annually by the United Nations. Michelle Van Paris, chapter Vice President of Operations for Mesa's Red Mountain campus, organized the event to encourage companies and communities to "kick the carbon habit" and de-carbonize their economies and lifestyles. Honors in Action events incorporate the Phi Theta Kappa Hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship, through programs relating to the Honors Study Topic, The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences; the International Service Program, Operation Green: Improving Our Communities; and the Leadership Development Program.
