Wipe Out Wireless Waste - Keep America Beautiful

Keep America Beautiful, Phi Theta Kappa's International Service Program partner, is working with Sprint Nextel and Recellular to create Wipe Out Wireless Waste - a zero waste solution to ease the growing environmental problem caused by discarded cell phones. Today, wireless subscribers in the United States exceed 200 million - and more than 125 million cell phones are being discarded every year, creating over 65,000 tons of wireless waste. Unfortunately, many old phones or parts and dangerous materials wind up in landfills. Phi Theta Kappa chapters may participate by collecting old phones and mailing them for proper disposal - at no charge. Visit the Keep America Beautiful website and click on Wipe Out Wireless Waste. Print out the postage-paid reply label to mail the phones. Keep America Beautiful will receive all proceeds, which will be channeled directly into litter prevention, waste reduction, and beautification projects nationwide. At the end of the year, Keep America Beautiful will report the number of phones collected by Phi Theta Kappa chapters. Chapter members encouraging their college community to participate are reminded to send the link to online and distance learning students.
