Two Society Members Receive 2009 Truman Scholarships
Two Phi Theta Kappa members are among the 60 outstanding students who have
been named 2009 Truman Scholars. They are Hamilton Daniel Cunningham,
who was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at Georgia Perimeter College,
and LaShunda Shecuna Hill, a Phi Theta Kappa member at Chattanooga State
Technical Community College in Tennessee. Cunningham
now attends Howard University and is majoring in economics. Hill
is majoring in political science, sociology and humanities at the University
of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Truman Scholarships provide up to $30,000
for graduate studies. Recipients are committed to careers in government
or the not-for-profit sector. The 2009 Class of Truman
Scholars was announced by Foundation president and 2006 Phi Theta
Kappa Convention keynote speaker Madeleine Albright.
