Chapter Sales Booths Unavailable in Academic Marketplace
For the 2008 International Convention, chapters will not have the
opportunity to sell merchandise in the Academic Marketplace. Unusually
high charges for exhibit space and sales tax reporting requirements make
chapter participation cost-prohibitive, said Phi Theta Kappa's Director
of Recognition Services, Casey
Holcomb. After a careful study of regulations imposed by the Pennsylvania
State Tax Commission and the Philadelphia Convention Center, the decision
was regretfully made to not include chapter sales booths in 2008, Holcomb
said. Holcomb said the decision is being communicated as early as possible,
to allow chapters to make alternate fundraising plans. The Academic Marketplace
will still be the hub of Convention activities, featuring International
Officer Candidate Booths, special exhibits and sales of merchandise from
the Recognitions Collection.
