Chapters Planning Founders Day Celebrations Phi Theta Kappa chapters and regions are encouraged to commemorate the Society's 84th anniversary with special observances on Founders Day, November 19. For suggested ways to celebrate Phi Theta Kappa Founders Day on your campus, visit http://www.ptk.org/society/foundersday.htm. Phi Theta Kappa was founded in Missouri in 1918 by two-year college presidents, who patterned the honor society after Phi Beta Kappa, the senior college honors organization. Today the Society includes nearly 1,200 chapters in all 50 states, Canada, Germany, Japan and U.S. territorial possessions. Phi Theta Kappa was recognized as the official honor society for two-year institutions by the American Association of Community Colleges in 1929.
