Phi Theta Kappa Officers’ Leadership Resource Center

The Officers’ Leadership Resource Center is designed for Phi Theta Kappa Regional and Chapter officers and launched in August 2008. New Leadership Resource Center articles are announced in the Officers’ Golden Key News Briefs, usually twice each month. These summaries, ideas, news items, and activities are written specifically for you to help stay on top of your challenges as a Phi Theta Kappa Leader. There are additional leadership resources on general leadership topics, such as Team Building and Conflict Management, in the Leadership Briefs section of Phi Theta Kappa’s website.

Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Studies:  A Humanities Approach is offered for academic credit only at institutions which have a Certified Leadership Instructor. View the Directory of Participating Colleges and Universities to find out if your school has Phi Theta Kappa Certified Leadership Instructors and may offer Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Studies:  A Humanities Approach.

This Summer we have an awesome non-credit opportunity for students who do not have access to Phi Theta Kappa’s Leadership Development Studies Program on their campuses!

We are launching a series of online leadership dialogues via Facebook, led by Phi Theta Kappa’s Dean of Leadership Development and other Certified Leadership Instructors.  This is a perfect way to hone your leadership skills for your personal development and for Honors in Action projects. If you engage in dialogues for all 11 units, you will receive a certificate certifying your completion of this version of the Leadership Development Studies course.  We will dialogue about the readings and films in a single unit each week between May 18, 2009 and August 7, 2009, except the week of June 29, 2009.  Visit the Facebook Group “Study Group for Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Studies Certificate” and join before May 11 when the first reading assignments and dialogue questions will be posted.

We are even offering a 30 percent discount on purchases of our textbook, Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Studies: A Humanities Approach for participants in the Facebook Study Group.

Purchase the book online and enter the discount code LEADFB, or mention the discount LEADFB and item number ZM4 when calling Recognition Services at 800.946.9996, Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, CST.

Don’t forget — get your discounted book and join the Facebook Group by May 11!

Honors in Action Profiles
The following articles describe the work of real people who exemplify the Honors in Action approach in their lives, integrating scholarly research and learning with service and leadership and educating others as well as seeking others to work with them. Their lives illustrate the philosophy expressed by Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 that "Scholarship is of worth chiefly when it is productive, when the scholar not merely receives or acquires, but gives".

Be sure to check out Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Briefs for articles on additional leadership topics!

Phi Theta Kappa's Honors Program Department will be thinking and writing this year about our 2008-2010 Honors Study Topic, The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences and Honors in Action, in our OutThinking” blog. Susan Edwards, Dean of Academic Affairs and Honors Programs, Monika Byrd, Dean of Leadership Development, and Jennifer Stanford, Dean of Service Learning, along with guest writers, will be posting regularly to the blog and invite your comments and responses.
