Leadership Development Program Staff

The National Facilitators lead Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certification Seminars around the country. Collectively, they have enormous experience in leadership instruction, the humanities, and student development. Two National Facilitators conduct each Certification Seminar. The Leadership Development Programs Coordinator organizes the Seminar and serves as the Conference Center Liaison throughout the Seminar.

National Facilitators

David Berry, M.A.
David Berry is the Director of the Community College Humanities Association and a Professor of History at Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey. He became a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certified Instructor in 1996 and has been a National Facilitator since 1997.

Monika Byrd, M.A.
Monika Byrd is the Director of Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi. Previously she taught History and Leadership Development at Tomball College and Brazosport College in Texas. She became a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certified Instructor in 1992 and has been a National Facilitator since 1999.

Michael Engs, Ed.D.
Michael Engs is a Counselor at Pima County Community College in Tucson, Arizona. He has additional experience in Student Development and Student Affairs. He became a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certified Instructor in 1993 and has been a National Facilitator since 1994.

Jo Marshall, Ph.D.
Jo Marshall is the President of Somerset Community College in Somerset, Kentucky. She has extensive experience teaching English and American Literature. She became a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certified Instructor in 1991 and has been a National Facilitator since 1992.

Mark McCabe, Ed.D.
Mark McCabe is the Dean of Students at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He has extensive experience in Student Development, Counseling and Advising, and Leadership instruction. He became a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certified Instructor in 1993 and has been a National Facilitator since 1994.

Lillie McCain, Ph.D.
Lillie McCain is a Professor of Psychology at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan. In addition, she has extensive experience as a trainer and consultant. She became a Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs Certified Instructor in 1991 and has been a National Facilitator since 1992.

Leadership Development Programs Coordinator

Tammy Harvey
Tammy Harvey joined Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development Programs in 1996. She has extensive experience as a meeting planner, coordinating the National Certification Seminars and the bi-annual Leading Edge Conference of Phi Theta Kappa Certified Leadership Faculty. She also assists with development of Leadership Development Programs publications, including the Student Manual, the Instructor’s Manual, and The Leader newsletter.
