Texas Chapter Named Society's 2006 Most Distinguished
The Beta Lambda Mu Chapter at Cy-Fair College in Texas, fueled by outstanding
programs in the Hallmark areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and
Fellowship, was named Phi Theta Kappa's Most Distinguished Chapter for
2006 at the conclusion of the recent International Convention in Seattle.
Chartered
less than four years ago when the college first opened, the chapter earned
Scholarship, Leadership and Service Hallmark Awards and was named a Beta
Alpha Continued Excellence Chapter.
Among the comprehensive
programs undertaken by the chapter during the past year were a series of
Town Hall Meetings on the Honors Study Topic for middle school students,
dialogues on image and leadership for the campus and community, establishing
a college Relay For Life Team and serving as a collection and distribution
center for supplies to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.
First
Finalist to Most Distinguished Chapter was Alpha Zeta Omicron Chapter,
Cedar Valley College, Texas, which also received Scholarship, Leadership
and Service Hallmark Awards.
Second Finalist was Eta Nu Chapter,
St. Petersburg College, Florida. The chapter also received Scholarship,
Leadership and Service Hallmark Awards.
Third Finalist honors
went to Eta Gamma Chapter, Coffeyville Community College, Kansas, also
recipient of Scholarship, Leadership and Service Hallmark Awards.
Named
Fourth Finalist was Beta Theta Kappa Chapter, Butte College, California.
The chapter received Hallmark Awards for Scholarship and Leadership.
Fifth
Finalist was Omega Omicron Chapter, Cleveland State Community College,
Tennessee, which also received a Service Hallmark Award.

Phi Theta Kappa
is the official honor society for students enrolled in associate degree
studies. Phi Theta Kappa includes some 1,200 chapters in all 50 of the United
States, in Canada, Germany, U.S. Territories, the Republic of Palau and
the British Virgin Islands. Phi Theta Kappa inducts some 100,000 honor
students annually. The Society's International Headquarters are located
at the Center for Excellence in Jackson, Mississippi.
