Three New Members Join Alumni Advisory Council
Three new members have joined the Phi Theta Kappa Alumni
Advisory Council, which serves as a liaison between the Society
alumni members and associations and the International Headquarters.
Shirley
Scarbrough and Patti Van Atter were appointed to the Council by Phi Theta
Kappa Executive Director Rod Risley.
BJ Smith was elected to
the Council by alumni attending the 2006 International Convention in Seattle.
Scarbrough,
who will serve as president of the Council, became a member of Phi Theta Kappa
at Jefferson College in Missouri. She has been an active Phi Theta Kappa
alumna since 1987, and has held offices in the Theta of Missouri Alumni Association
and is the Missouri Alumni Association.
Scarbrough has received
a number of alumni awards and recognitions on the regional and international
levels, and was Jefferson College's Alumna of the Year in 1996.
Van
Atter was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa at Gloucester County College in
New Jersey. Since becoming an alumni member in 2000, she has been actively
involved with the Middle
States Region Alumni Association, of which she is a charter member.
Van
Atter has held various offices in the Middle States Alumni Regional Association,
including president.
Both Scarbrough and Van Atter have previously
served on the Alumni Advisory Council.
Smith is a graduate of
Salem Community College in New Jersey, where she became a member of Phi Theta
Kappa. She is now associated with the college and serves as a Phi Theta Kappa
chapter advisor. Smith received the Paragon Award for New Advisors in 2004.
Smith
is a charter member of the Middle
States Region Alumni Association, and holds the office of webmaster.
The
mission of the Phi Theta Kappa alumni program is to support and promote the
people, programs and priorities of the Phi Theta Kappa Society, fostering
and encouraging the communication and affiliation among all alumni and
friends.
